Society for Science is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) membership organization dedicated to public engagement in scientific research and education. Their vision is to promote the understanding and appreciation of science and the vital role it plays in human advancement: to inform, educate, and inspire. The Society's STEM Action Grant is designed to award innovative organizations using creative solutions to do work that supports their mission—to inform, educate and inspire people from all walks of life to engage in STEM.
STEM Action Grants may be used towards operating costs, materials, equipment, travel and capacity-building projects.
Since 2016, the Society has awarded over $828,000 to a total of 113 organizations wanting to improve access to STEM education. In 2023, a total of $245,000 was given to 53 dynamic community-centric STEM organizations spanning 24 states and Washington, D.C. The amount of funding available each cycle varies but generally ranges from $100,000 to $165,000. Applicants may request up to $5,000 in funding per cycle. Total sum awarded is at the discretion of the Society's selection committee.
