    Summary

    The Fire Company and Emergency Medical Service Grant Program provides grants for volunteer and career fire, emergency medical services and rescue companies. Pennsylvania organizations may apply for grant funding for a combination of up to two projects in the following categories:

    • Facilities - Construction and/or renovation of the fire company's or ambulance service's facility and purchase or repair of fixtures and furnishings necessary to maintain or improve the capability of the company to provide fire, ambulance and rescue services.
    • Equipment - Purchase or repair of firefighting, ambulance or rescue equipment. Includes the purchase of fuel for company vehicles.
    • Debt reduction - Debt reduction associated with the facility (1) or equipment (2) categories above.
    • Training - Training and certification of members.
    • Training and education materials regarding fire prevention for the general public.
    • (Career Departments Only) Overtime costs associated with backfilling positions while fire fighters are attending training.

    Additional Information

    Grants to eligible fire can rescue companies will be contingent on their agreeing to participate in and report information using the Pennsylvania Fire Information Reporting System (PennFIRS).

  • Eligibility Details

    Eligible applicants include Pennsylvania (1) fire companies; (2) emergency medical service providers; and (3) volunteer rescue squads. Volunteer fire companies that also provide emergency medical service are eligible to apply for both a fire company grant and emergency medical service grant. 

    Deadline Details

    Applications were to be submitted by January 25, 2021. A similar deadline is anticipated annually. 

    Award Details

    Awards to fire companies range from $2,500 to $15,000. Awards to volunteer ambulance services range from $2,500 to $10,000. Projects must be for a 12-month period, starting January 1, 2020.
