    Summary

The Moriah Fund seeks to promote human rights and social justice, help disadvantaged people gain self-sufficiency and control over their lives, foster sustainable development, and promote women's rights and reproductive health. The Moriah Fund makes grants in the following areas:

    1. Promoting civil rights, social justice and democracy in Israel - Moriah allocates the largest share of its funding to Israel, placing an emphasis on the development of Israeli organizations that promote: (a) civil rights, (b) social justice and democracy, and, (c) improve educational and economic opportunities for the disadvantaged. Moriah also funds programs to facilitate absorption of immigrants.
    2. Protecting and advancing human rights - The Moriah Fund has a strong commitment to human rights and funds a variety of human rights efforts throughout its program areas. For example, within the Israel program, we place an emphasis on the rights of Arab and Ethiopian citizens of Israel, and in the Women’s Rights and Reproductive Heath program, we devote a portion of our grantmaking to organizations that integrate human rights strategies and mechanisms into efforts to promote women’s rights.
    3. Promoting economic justice and empowering low income families in Washington, DC - The Moriah Fund supports state and local organizations in the Washington DC region, as well as national organizations that engage in policy, advocacy and community organizing efforts to advance policies and programs that reduce poverty and empower low-income families and youth to work towards economic security.
    4. Advancing women's human rights and sexual and reproductive health - Moriah's program seeks to: (a) transform the legal, political, economic and cultural structures that sustain gender discrimination and violence and that limit women's full participation in society; and, (b) enable women to manage their own fertility and protect and promote their sexual and reproductive health.
